• ECE,Deptt is pleased to announce that a patent titled “A Fabrication Method for Generating a Multicolor Two-Dimensional Spatial Array” has been granted by the The Patent Office, Government of IIT Roorkee. The invention, developed by Prof. Arnab Datta, Mandeep Jangra and Jasvinder Singh, has been granted under Patent No. 587276 against Application No. 202411078580. • 📢 ECE Deptt, IIT Roorkee is organizing a seminar/workshop on “Quantum Computing for Secure Quantum Communications” on 22 May 2026 at the ECE Conference Room. 🎓 The session will be delivered by Harshit Gupta from qBraid and will include discussions on quantum computing, secure quantum communication, and a hands-on platform demonstration.

• 🎉 The Department congratulates Prof. Ekant Sharma and his ECE research team on the successful commercialization of their patented Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface (RIS) technology for next-generation 5G/6G wireless applications. 👏 We extend our best wishes for continued success in research, innovation, and industry collaborations.

• The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), IIT Roorkee, extends its sincere congratulations to Mr. Chandan Gupta (M.Tech VLSI) and Mr. Siddhant Kumar (M.Tech Terahertz Communication and Sensing) on their selection for the HORIBA India PG Awards for the academic year 2025–26.

• Mr. Kunal (guided by Prof. Sanjeev Manhas) and Ms. Anamika Singh (guided by Prof. Avirup Dasgupta and Prof. Sourajeet Roy) from the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, IIT Roorkee, received the Best Student Presenter Award at EDTM 2026 for the outstanding quality and contribution of their research work. 🎓 • Congratulations to Prof. Gowrish Basavarajappa, ECE Deptt as IIT Roorkee has licensed his advanced antenna technology to MTEKPRO technologies pvt. ltd. The innovation,“a system and method for gain enhancement in pyramidal horn antenna using band pass gain boosting surface (gbs)”, was developed by Prof. Gowrish Basavarajappa. This collaboration marks an important step in translating IIT Roorkee’s cutting-edge research into real-world applications.

• Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, in collaboration with IIITB COMET, International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore, and Mantiswave Networks Private Limited, have signed a Technology Transfer Agreement for the Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface (RIS) Technology to be used in 6G networks. Congratulations to Prof. Ekant Sharma and his team.

• The chip number C2S0024 is our chip designed in the Analog & Mixed Signal Circuit Design Lab in the ECE department, IIT Roorkee. The chip was designed to extract device data and analyze the performance of basic circuits such as bandgap reference, ring and relaxation oscillators and comparators at cryogenic temperatures. All the circuits are put in the chip along with different devices.

• Mr. Suriya N, an MTech student under the guidance of Prof. Saravana Kumar M, received Institute Gold Medal for securing the highest CGPA in the MTech program.

• Dr. Prabhat Ranjan, Dr.Ajay Yadav, Dr. Avirup Dasgupta, and Dr. Ajay Kumar from the ECE Department, IIT Roorkee, have been granted a Design Patent for their device titled "A Sensor-Based Device to Detect Harmful Gases" (Design No. 454118-001). The patent, issued by the Patent Office, Government of India, highlights their innovation in harmful gas detection technology.

• Prof Tanmoy was shortlisted in the list of top-5 faculty members for IITR's "Excellence in Teaching Award" 2025 in two categories: UG category (for classes with 80+ students) and UG category (for classes with 30+ students, taught by a young faculty member).

• Prof. Sparsh Mittal has received IIT Roorkee's "Excellence in Teaching Award" 2025 in the UG category (for classes with 80+ students).

• Prof Sparsh Mittal has received ``2nd Ramesh Chandra Mittal Award for Excellence in Research'' from the Roorkee branch of Bharat Vikas Parishad for his work on the transliteration of Modi script to Devanagari script for Marathi language.

• Kattamuri Kushal and E. Hemanth Venkata Appalanaidu, dedicated and meritorious students from the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), IIT Roorkee, has been awarded the "Smt. Shyam Lata Garg Scholarship" in recognition of his outstanding academic performance and exemplary conduct.

• Prof. Vinod Pankajakshan, Department of ECE, IIT Roorkee, has been conferred the Champion of Well-being Award on World Mental Health Day 2025. This honor recognizes his outstanding efforts in advancing mental health and emotional well-being among students.

• A team of Daksh Pandey (UG, Engineering Physics) and Dr Sparsh Mittal won second prize in the Indian region in the CSAW Embedded Security Challenge (ESC) 2025

• A paper authored by Prof. Sparsh Mittal (ECE Deptt., IIT Roorkee), Mr Priyanshu Tyagi (ECE Deptt, IIT Roorkee) and Aayush Gautam (UIET, Panjab University), entitled “A 98.5-TOPS/W and 0.73-TOPS/mm² Digital Compute-In-Memory Macro with a Novel 6T+MUX Bitcell for Sparsity-Aware MAC Operations,” has received the Best Paper Award at the VLSID 2026 conference.

• The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, IIT Roorkee, achieved notable recognition at the 39th IEEE VLSI Design and 25th Embedded Systems Conference (VLSID 2026), one of the most prestigious platforms for semiconductor and system design innovation. Dr. Amandeep Singh, Dr. Anu Verma, Dr. Anshul Verma won the Best Digital IC Tapeout Award – VLSID 2026 under the guidance of Prof. Bishnu Das Prasad, while Dr. Dinesh Kushwaha received the Best Ph.D. Thesis Award – VLSID 2026 under the supervision of Prof. Sudeb Das Gupta and Prof. Anand Bulusu

• Priyanshu Tyagi, a PhD student in ECE department under the guidance of Prof Sparsh Mittal, has received the Qualcomm Innovation Fellowship 2025.

• Prof Sparsh Mittal's team develops the world’s first AI model (MoScNet) to transliterate historic Modi script into Devanagari script for Marathi language.

• Vaishnavi Dave, B.Tech. ECE, has been awarded the prestigious Harish Tejwani 1998 Gold Medal for Outstanding B.Tech. Project in Electronics & Communication Engineering at IIT Roorkee.

• Dr. Ankita Chauhan, Ph.D. graduate from the ECE Department, received the prestigious Excellence in Doctoral Research Award for her outstanding research contributions.

• A paper authored by Prof Sudeb Dasgupta, Prof Sparsh Mittal, Abhishek Goel, Cheena Singhal and Dinesh Kushwaha has received best paper award in APCCAS 2025 conference held in South Korea.

• Prof. Gaurav Sharma (B.E. E&C, 1990), now a Professor at the University of Rochester, visited IIT Roorkee on 25th November 2025 and received the Distinguished Alumnus Award (DAA) 2024 for his contributions to image processing, data science, and computational imaging. During his visit, he met with the Dean of International Relations along with Prof. Tharun Kumar Reddy Bollu, ECE Department, to discuss future academic collaborations, including joint research, faculty exchange, and student mobility.

• AMRIT Lab, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, IIT Roorkee, has been recognized as 3rd out of 100 5G Use Case Lab Institutions under the Gradation Framework Assessment. The prestigious recognition was conferred by the Hon’ble Minister of Communications, Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, in the presence of the Hon’ble Minister of State for Communications, Shri Chandra Sekhar Pemma

• ECE Department, IIT Roorkee has achieved a major milestone with the FLORA dataset and NeRA adapter—India’s first fashion-sketch dataset—enabling AI-driven fashion sketch generation, led by Prof. Sparsh Mittal and aligned with India’s national AI and innovation initiatives.

• Devashish Arora (under the guidance of Prof. Meenakshi Rawat) received the best paper award: “ Prof Sudarshan Tiwari Memorial Best Paper Award in Communication Track” in IEEE MAC2024 Conference, held at Dehradun, India

• Ph.D. student S. Dhanunjay Reddy (under the guidance of Prof. Tharun Kumar Reddy) was awarded with the SERB International Travel grant to present the work at ICASSP 2024, Seoul, South Korea.

• Prof. Meenakshi Rawat was conferred the Women Science Communicator Award.

• Ph.D. students Abhishek Kumar and Prabhat Ranjan have received the SERB International Travel Grant

• Mr. Shrey Agrawal (BTech-2024 Batch) received the Class of ’98 Tejwani Gold Medal for the Best B. Tech Project (Supervisor: Prof. Anshul Jaiswal) in Convocation-2024.

• Mr. Gunjit Arora (PhD scholar under Prof. Anshul Jaiswal) has been selected for the Student Travel Grant to attend the IEEE International Conference on Advanced Networks and Telecommunications Systems, to be held in Guwahati, India.

• Prof Sparsh served as the track chair in the iSES 2024 and VLSID 2025 conferences and as TPC member of HiPC 2024 and Supercomputing (SC) 2024 conferences.

• A paper co-authored by Dr Sparsh has received the “Best Industry-Related Paper Award” at the International Conference on Pattern Recognition (ICPR) 2024.

• Prof. Sparsh Mittal is one of the recipients of 2024 Qualcomm Faculty Awards in India.

• A paper co-authored by Dr Sparsh has won the best paper award at the COMSNETS India Internet Governance Workshop 2024.

• A paper co-authored by Dr Sparsh has won the best student paper award at VLSID 2024.

• Ms. Ankita Chauhan (PhD scholar under Prof. Anshul Jaiswal) has been selected for the prestigious SERB – UAlberta Fellowship program (Fall 2023 semester) to conduct research at the UNIVERSITY OF ALBERTA, Canada.

• Mr. Gunjit Arora (PhD scholar under Prof. Anshul Jaiswal) has been selected for IEEE ComSoc Conference Travel Grants to attend and present his paper at the IEEE International Conference on Communications (a flagship conference of IEEE ComSoc) to be held in Rome

• Ms. Ragini Verma (PhD scholar under Prof. Anshul Jaiswal) has been selected for IEEE VTS Student Travel Award to present her paper at the IEEE 97th Vehicular Technology Conference [IEEE Vehicular Technology Society Flagship Conference], to be held in Florence, Italy

• PhD Student, Ms. Neha Singh, has received the first prize in poster presentations in IndoML-2023, held in IIT Bombay.

• A paper co-authored by Dr Sparsh has won the best paper award, honorable mention at AIMLSystems 2023.

• Ankita Chauhan, a Ph.D. scholar under the guidance of Prof. Anshul Jaiswal, has been selected for the SERB–UAlberta Fellowship program (Fall 2023 semester) to conduct research at the University of Alberta, Canada.

• Five PhD students (Abhishek Kumar, Srishti, Hari Shanker, Manoj Kumar, Jay Singh) have been selected for the PMRF Fellowship.

• Chinmay Nagpal and his team emerged as National Winners in the E-Waste category of Trash to Treasure Hackathon.

• Ph.D. student S. Dhanunjay Reddy and Team (Under the supervision of Prof. Tharun Kumar Reddy) received the first prize in the BIOMAG 2022 data analysis competition.

• Prof. Meenakshi Rawat received the fellowship from iHUB DivyaSampark as the ‘Faculty Fellow’ from 2022-2023.

• Prof. Meenakshi Rawat received the Institute Research Fellowship (IRF) from 2022-2025.

• Shipra (under the guidance of Prof. Meenakshi Rawat) received the Best Idea Pitching Award at WAMS-2022 (Wireless, Antenna, and Microwave Symposium) held at NIT Rourkela, India.

• Prof. Meenakshi Rawat served as Technical Program Co-chair for IEEE Microwave, Antenna, and Propagation Conference (MAPCON) and track chair for IEEE Wireless Antenna and Microwave Symposium (WAMS) 2022.

• Six PhD students (Amrutha Subrahmannian, Ashutosh Bisht, Ayshika Kapoor, Nehete Hemkant, Suman, and Kumar Sheelvardhan) have been selected for the PMRF Fellowship (cycle 10).
